- Acute Viral Hepatitis (Infectious and Serum Hepatitis)
- SYMPTOMS usually begin with nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, fever, hives
- and joint pains. Other symptoms may occur after 3 to 10 days. These symptoms
- are enlarged, tender liver, jaundice, dark urine and enlarged spleen.
- CAUSES. Virus type A is spread from person to person via fecally
- contaminated food and water. Type B virus is spread via contaminated
- hypodermic needles and transfusion of contaminated blood or blood products.
- TREATMENT. Acute hepatitis usually clears itself within 6 to 12 weeks
- .Special treatment should not be required.
